City cops undergo surprise drug test
Eighty-five personnel of the Iloilo City Police Office led by city police director, Senior Supt. Dennis Basngi, underwent a surprise drug test last Monday.
“We should show the public that the law enforces in Iloilo are drug-free,” Basngi said.
The rest of the personnel came from ICPO’s six police stations, ICPO Mobile Unit, Iloilo City Public Safety Management Company, and the Traffic Management and Engineering Unit.
The policemen were asked to submit their urine samples to the Regional Crime Laboratory 6.
The test, however, will not stop with the 85 policemen.
Basngi said the ICPO will continue conducting random drug tests until all city policemen are tested.
Those who will be found positive will be meted with appropriate sanctions.
“We will recommend them for rehabilitation and then we will study the filing of an administrative case,” Basngi said.
The results of the drug test is expected to be released this week, he said.*
