‘Check weighing scale before buying goods’
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has advised the public to check first the weighing scale of a market vendor when buying any product per kilo.
The weighing scale must have an official seal from the City Treasurer’s Office.
Mabilog said this is a way to regulate unscrupulous individuals taking advantage of their customers.
“The seal is a proof that the weighing scale has been inspected and passed the standards of Social Services Unit (SSU) and City Treasurer’s Office (CTO),” he said.
Under City Ordinance No. 399, vendors caught with an illegal or defective scale will be fined from P200 to P1, 000.
Only this Monday, 96 illegal and defective weighting scales were destroyed by the City Hall.
Most of the scales were confiscated from Iloilo Central Market, La Paz Public Market, Iloilo Terminal Market and Jaro Big Market.
Mabilog said it is better to destroy these scales to prevent them from being reused.
He also called for the cooperation of the public by reporting vendors practicing such kind of illegal activity.*
