Housing project inventory starts
The Iloilo City government yesterday started its inventory of the assets of the P130-million abandoned housing project in Brgy. Ungka, Pavia town.
An inventory team, composed of the city legal office, the members of the city council, city engineer’s office, city treasurer’s office, city budget office, and the representatives of the Commission on Audit, is tasked to assess the existing and unfinished housing units in the abandoned housing project.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said he expects the inventory team to do a thorough work and make appropriate reports as soon as possible.
The mayor also said that the team would make a list of existing units, finished or not, and check the current conditions of the houses.
He said he expects the team to pass its inventory report by the end of the month.
Mabilog said the city government would make fast and appropriate actions on the housing units which have become idle assets for years.
He also said that the city could convert the area into a thriving investment or just sell it to interested private companies. The proceeds from this housing units and its lot price can be added to the city coffers especially that the city has limited sources of funding, he said.
The P130-million unfinished housing project is owned by the city government and was constructed by contractor Ace Builders and Enterprise.
The project was abandoned by the contractor in 2003.*PNA
