Japan to turn over fertilizer to RP gov’t
MANILA – A ceremonial turnover of fertilizer from the Government of Japan (GOJ) to the Government of the Philippines (GOP) is slated today at the Port of Poro Point in La Union, the Department of Agriculture said yesterday.
A total volume of 42,184 Metric Tons of ammonium sulphate fertilizer in six shipments was granted by the GOJ per Exchange of Notes between the two governments signed on Feb. 13, 2009.
The volume of fertilizer was sold through public bidding wherein the proceeds from the sale amounting to P248 million will be utilized for the implementation of socio-economic and environmental related projects (usually for budgetary support) managed by the Department of Finance.
The supplier for the fertilizers is Mitsubishi Corporation, which won the supply tender held in the United Kingdom in February 2010 conducted by Crown Agents, the Procurement Agent for the program.
Leading the ceremony for the GOJ is Japan’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Minister Akio Isomata together with the Second Secretary, Economic Section, Mr. Hirochika Namekawa will attend to witness the event.
