No poll-related violence so far
Western Visayas has posted zero election-related violent incidents so far since the start of the election period for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on October 25.
But Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao Jr.. police regional director, said during the recent Regional Peace and Order Council meeting there is no let up in their operations to ensure the honest, orderly and peaceful elections.
During the meeting, Pagdilao said 31 persons have already been arrested for violating the gun ban which resulted to the confiscation of 28 firearms, four grenades and other explosives and one firearm replica for the period September 25 to October 7.
Ten of the 31 persons were arrested in checkpoints – Negros Occidental, five; Antique, two; and Aklan, Bacolod City and Iloilo City, one each.
A total 2,811 checkpoints have been set up conducted by the Police Regional Office 6 through its 168 units for the election period.*PNA
