DOLE 6 bares high compliance rate to labor standards
Majority of the establishments in Western Visayas with 10-199 workers were found to be compliant with labor standards according to the Project Labor Enforcement and Action Program (LEAP) inspection, a report from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 6 revealed.
Labor Regional Director Manuel Roldan disclosed that 69 percent 568 establishments employing 10-199 workers showed high compliance rate on core labor standards among the inspectionable establishments.
Roldan said 1,233 establishments in the region were already inspected from August to September this year covering 824 inspectionable establishments while the rest were either subject to Technical Assistance Visit or Self-Assessment.
He said of the 824 inspectionable establishments inspected, 568 were found to have complied with core labor standards such as minimum wage, 13th month pay, regular & special holidays, service incentive leave, night shift differential and overtime pay, and provided social security benefits to their workers.
Roldan was pleased with the result of the LEAP and hoped that compliance rate will increase when more inspectionable establishments will be inspected at the end of the 1st phase come November 30, 2010 and also next year during the project’s 2nd phase.
“I hope compliance rate will increase at the end of the 1st phase and also next year during the 2nd phase of LEAP so that more workers will be benefited by this project,” he said.
The DOLE 6 is currently implementing the Project LEAP aimed to intensify the labor standards enforcement via a zonal approach to increase inspection among inspectionable establishments.
The agency targeted to inspect 2,400 establishments for the first phase, August November 2010.*PNA
