Rescue groups in Iloilo attend life support training
Around 35 rescue groups in Iloilo province have been accredited by the Iloilo Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (IPDCC) to help in response and rescue operations during calamities.
However, Jerry Bionat, IPDCC coordinator, said not all members of the rescue groups are equipped with skills, talents, expertise, and knowledge on basic first aid and life support system.
To counter these deficiency problems, Bionat said some members of these rescue groups, including those from local government units, are undergoing basic training course.
“Rescue groups are considered volunteers, but they are mandated to respond in case of emergency under R.A. 10121 (Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act)”, Bionat said.
He said the training will highlight not only how to rescue victims but also how to establish basic life support.
The training is being conducted by the Philippine National Red Cross.*MGC
