Abs-Cbn Launches ‘Derecho’
ABS-CBN Iloilo introduced its latest weekly issue-oriented and highly investigative public service program to the Ilonggos recently at the Sunset Ballroom of Hotel del Rio.
Called “Derecho”, the program aims to inform, educate, empower the citizenry and form public opinion towards the promotion of positive change. The program serves as a venue of the public to express their concerns and sentiments on relevant issues. It further addresses the issue by linking with the concerned agencies to get things done. The program also highlights the success stories of inspiring Ilonggos, promotes Ilonggo values, talents and culture.
Derecho is hosted by Nony Basco and airs every Saturday from 7 to 7:25 AM.
“We had more than a year to conceptualize this program. We even produced dummy episodes until we found the perfect mix,” said ABS-CBN Iloilo Station Manager Charie Ginete-Ilon.
“To quote the late Eugenio Lopez Jr., our existence is for public service. We aim to help in the promotion of peace and order. We try to find solutions,” said Nony Basco. “This program is a big challenge on my part in my eight years as a broadcaster. I seldom mingle with my son because of the demands of my work but someday I know he will understand why his father is doing all these things,” he added. Basco also credited Ginete-Ilon and Atty. Jobert Penaflorida, host of Sikat Ka Iloilo! for conceptualizing “Derecho” and thanked the former for her belief in the team.
Basco ended his speech with Derecho’s battlecry: Ang tagpangapin sang inyo derecho!
