Explosives found in Bingawan
Policemen manning a checkpoint in Bingawan, Iloilo recovered explosives in a waiting shed at the boundary of Agbao and Cairongan villages.
The three grenade launchers, wrapped in a plastic bag, were believed to have been left by two persons seen in the area earlier.
Village chief Antonio Laru-an asked for police assistance after seeing the two suspicious-looking men.
The two men, however, left on board a motorcycle before the responding policemen arrived.
The policemen checked the waiting shed and found the explosives.
The three grenade launchers were still in good condition and could have wreaked havoc if they exploded, they said.
Meanwhile, Senior Supt. Gil Lebin, director of Iloilo Police Provincial Office, said they have yet to identify the persons who left the explosives.
Lebin said the two persons might have left the explosives after learning that they would pass a police checkpoint.*JPR
