DOT 6 to establish crisis management councils
The Department of Tourism 6 will establish crisis management councils throughout Western Visayas that will respond to tourism-related crisis.
Tourism Regional Director Edwin Trompeta said the proposal is an offshoot of the two-day DOT workshop held at the Diamond Hotel last week.
The DOT 6 has tapped the Pacific Asia Travel Association as consultant for the establishment of the crisis management councils that will involve industry stakeholders and institutions like the Philippine Red Cross and the Regional Disaster Coordinating Councils in addressing the four challenges – risk reduction, readiness, response, and recovery.
Tourists will be more confident in visiting Western Visayas because they know there are existing crisis management councils, Trompeta said.
Accreditation
Meanwhile, the DOT 6 has called on tourism establishments to get accredited with the agency.
Trompeta said owners and managers of the hotels, resorts, restaurants and other business establishments can apply for accreditation online so they can be included in tourism promotions.
“If they are accredited they could be included in our online promotions which could be accessed by tourists anywhere,” he said.
He said foreign tourists like to stay in hotels or resorts and avail of the services of establishments accredited by DOT because of their standard amenities.*
