DA signs pact with PSBP to develop Guimaras sites
MANILA – The Department of Agriculture has signed an agreement with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) to help agriculture communities in Guimaras manage their coastal resources.
The accord primarily aims to protect, manage, and govern precious coastal resources and reduce poverty among fisherfolk in Guimaras.
Officials of the DA-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources 6 witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on October 26 at the Guimaras Trade and Information Center function hall in Jordan town.
The MoU was signed during the launching of the “Linking Initiatives for Collaborative Coastal Resources Management and Governance” or LINC-CRMG program by the BFAR 6 and the provincial government.
The project benefits the fishing towns of Nueva Valencia, San Lorenzo, and Sibunag.
Guimaras Gov. Felipe Hilan Nava attended the launching of the LINC-CRMG, which aims to link city or municipal Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Councils (FARMCs) in the Visayas on the better management and governance of their respective coastal resources to complement poverty reduction among local fishermen.
Executive Director Rafael Lopa of PBSP said LINC-CRMG would be a vital component in providing more lasting solutions to the problems that affect the livelihood of the people in the island-province especially in the aftermath of the oil spill in 2006.*PNA
