Iloilo business, IT sectors laud RP offshoring award
The Philippine’s recognition as the “Offshoring Destination of the Year” for 2010 among the United Kingdom business process outsourcing (BPO) markets is good news especially that Iloilo is also one of the country’s promising business process outsourcing destination, according to the business sector and the Iloilo Federation for Information Technology.
Lea Lara, executive director of the Iloilo Business Club, said the recognition enhances the positioning of Iloilo also “going towards the same direction.”
At present, two available infrastructures are waiting for would-be locators, the Plazuela de Iloilo and Ayala, both situated along the Benigno Aquino Diversion Road in Mandurriao district.
“That’s really good news,” she said.
Joven Tansi, executive director of the Iloilo Federation for Information Technology, said human resources was one of the driving forces that really made the Philippines a viable destination.
He said Filipinos have a good command and comprehension of the English language.
Iloilo City ranked fourth among the country’s next wave cities and among its highest indicators are its quality graduates.
The Philippine was recognized as the “Offshoring Destination of the Year” during the National Outsourcing Association (NOA) Awards Night in London last week, a report from the Manila Bulletin was quoted.
The NOA award cited the country’s strong labor force, high literacy rate, world-class telecommunications infrastructure and government support as reasons for choosing the Philippines against other nominees in its category, the report added.*PNA
