3 youngsters arrested for robbing, stabbing cabbie
Three male youngsters, two of whom are minors, were arrested by the police after they were suspected of robbing a taxi driver shortly before midnight Monday near an upscale subdivision in Brgy. Hechanova, Jaro, Iloilo City.
During a hot pursuit operation, a 15-year-old boy and his 17-year-old companion were collared by policemen from Jaro Police Station.
Also arrested was their cohort identified as Danboy Sirilan, 20, of Brgy. Tabuc Suba, Jaro district.
Police said the suspects flagged down the GDR Taxi driven by Isaias Gonzaga, 44, of Brgy. Buyu-an, Tigbauan, Iloilo along the bridge in Brgy. Tabuc Suba.
They declared a hold-up as the cab was nearing the gate of Gran Plains Subdivision.
When Gonzaga resisted, he was stabbed by the 17-year-old suspect.
The three then fled with the victim’s earnings amounting to more than P2,000.
Police said the subdivision’s security guard reported that the suspect asked for help, telling him that he was stabbed.
A driver of a Light of Glory Taxi, who also saw the injured Gonzaga, brought the victim to West Visayas State University Medical Center. He responded when he noticed the victim’s parked taxi with its hazard lights on.
Gonzaga crawled out of his cab and the other driver saw him.
Before he lost consciousness, the victim told his rescuer that three male young men robbed and stabbed him.
Gonzaga is the 11th victim of robbery hold-up cases among taxi drivers in Iloilo City in recent months.*
