NICP, IBM forge pact for IT dev’t
Sharing the same vision of ensuring the development of information technology as a tool to improve the economy of the country, IBM Philippines and the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP) last week forged a partnership for the holding of the 3rd National ICT Summit in Bacolod on November 25 to 26.
James Velasquez, country general manager for IBM Philippines and NICP chairperson Jocelle Batapa-Sigue officially signed a partnership agreement in the presence of officers of the Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology (BNEFIT), the host ICT organization for this year’s summit.
A team of IBM experts will handle topics during the summit.
Lope Doromal, IBM Philippines chief technologist, will speak in the opening plenary about “Making our Planet Smarter: One City at a Time.”
Marjerie Balbuena, head of IBM Developer Relations and Academic Initiative programs, will discuss academic initiatives for building skills for a smarter planet.
IBM Academic Initiative is a global program that facilitates the collaboration between IBM and educators to teach students the information technology skills they need to be competitive and keep pace with changes in the workplace.
Eric Magdato, IBM Philippines country leader–Service Product Lines, Global Technology Services, will discuss business continuity and resiliency.
Doromal will also handle cloud computing, which represents the next phase in the logical evolution in the delivery of IT services.
Brent Lello, IBM industry sales executive for Lotus Software, will tackle exceptional online experiences for provincial citizens.
James Faeldon, IBM technical consultant for ISV and Developer Relations, will talk about “My developerWorks: Because YOU Matter,” or about IBM developerWorks, which is the destination on the Web for developers and IT professionals to stay ahead of the latest trends in open standards, develop skills, solve problems, and collaborate with peers.*
