Aklan eyeing P3 million from product showcase
The provincial government of Aklan is eyeing a P3-million revenue from its 8th Product Showcase at SM City Iloilo from November 15 to 21.
Provincial Director Diosdado Cadena of the Department of Trade and Industry-Aklan said that last year, sales, including orders from bulk buyers, reached P2.87 million.
At least 30 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have joined this year’s trade fair.
Cadena said the Aklan Product Showcase has been boosting the economic activities of MSMEs in the province and providing employment to communities.
The DTI continues to find buyers and potential investors for the products of Aklan since the annual showcase started in 2002, he said.
Provincial Planning and Development Officer Roger Esto, who came in behalf of Gov. Carlito Marquez at the opening rites, said the yearly activity has also been a venue for promoting indigenous materials and local talents.
The week-long event is showcasing the various products of the province, including engineered bamboos, bayong, furniture, processed meat, special delicacies, handmade paper crafts, clay-based and nito products, and piña cloth.
The theme for the 8th Aklan Product Showcase 2010 is “E Edition.” E stands for engineered, eco-friendly, and elegant.
The event is sponsored by the Hugod Aklanon Producers Association Inc. and DTI, in partnership with the provincial government of Aklan.*PNA
