4-cornered fight looms in Roxas City Liga race
ROXAS CITY – A four-cornered fight is expected in the race for the presidency of the Liga ng mga Barangay here, a source told The News Today.
The election, set next month, will see incumbent Liga President Wilson Acervo of Mongpong, Randee Albar of Lawaan, Alfredo Albaladejo of Tiza and Maria Celino Capapas of San Jose vying for the top Liga post.
Roxas City has 47 barangays, 11 of which are in the poblacion or city proper.
Acervo, who belongs to Ugyon Kita Capiz, won a second term via a landslide in the October 25 elections over his opponent from the Liberal Party.
However, Acervo said he will not run if the LP hierarchy will not support him.
Albar, who also belongs to UKC, was reelected as village chief of Roxas City’s biggest barangay.
Albaladejo, considered the LP contender, was also Liga president in the 1990’s during the administration of former Mayor Juliano Alba.
Capapas, aunt of Mayor Angel Alan Celino, is also being eyed by the LP for the top Liga post. She used to be the head of the City Assessor’s Office before her retirement and her foray into politics.*
