BFP: Make sure homes hazard-free this Christmas
The Bureau of Fire Protection 6 is reminding the public to make sure that their homes are fire hazard-free during the Yuletide season.
Senior Supt. Eleuterio Ituriaga, chief of BFP 6, said homeowners should thoroughly check their electrical wiring especially in main switches, appliances and other electronics, as faulty connections could start a fire.
He said wiring from fake and substandard Christmas lights is one of the main causes of fire during the Christmas holidays that the public should be wary of buying these lighting fixtures.
Most fires in December are caused by faulty electrical wiring and cheap lighting ornaments usually bought along the sidewalks, he said.
Iturriaga also advised homeowners to post a checklist of things to switch off and double check their appliances before leaving their homes.
He also said that LPGs should be checked and that flammable materials should be kept out of reach of children.
Iturriaga said all fire stations are on alert status for the holidays in December.
He said Iloilo City residents may call the local Fire Hotline at 337-3011.*PNA
