Oton fire chief, 3 firemen sacked
The entire force of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Oton, Iloilo has been dismissed for alleged abuse of authority.
BFP 6 regional director, Senior Supt. Eleuterio Iturriaga, ordered the relief of Oton fire marshall Insp. Arnold Pulido, his two firemen, and a fire auxiliary for using their agency’s vehicle for unofficial activity.
The relief order was based on Pulido’s report about the misbehavior of his two firemen.
In his investigation, Pulido discovered that apart from becoming unruly brought about by the heavy intake of liquor, his two firemen and an auxillary, whose identities were not immediately available, used the fire truck as their service vehicle in going to the KTV bar somewhere in Poblacion.
Pulido himself was not spared from the relief order for command responsibility.
Meanwhile, the storage room of the BFP in Talisay City, Negros Occidental was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning.
Fire chief Capt. Kim Felicio said all office documents kept inside the storage room were burned.
Investigation showed the electrical short circuit caused the fire and was aggravated by the heap of office documents inside the storage room.
The structure that housed the BFP office was made of light materials and already dilapidated.
The fire which started 11:10 a.m. was put out after seven minutes.
Damage was estimated at about P100,000 aside from the several office equipment such as computers that incurred water damage.*PNA
