6 sentinel sites to monitor firecracker injuries in WV
The Department of Health-Center for Health Development 6 has increased to six the number of its sentinel sites that will monitor firecracker injuries and gunshots during the Christmas season.
Health Assistant Regional Director Marilyn Convocar, during the launching of the campaign Kontra Paputok 2010, said that from the previous two sentinel sites, they have added four more hospitals in Western Visayas to serve as sentinel sites.
The report of these sentinel sites will be included in the Online National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (ONEISS) of the DOH.
The only two hospitals that served as sentinel sites last year that were able to monitor and report 59 cases of injuries were the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City with 23 cases, and the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City, 36 cases.
The additional hospitals that would serve as sentinel sites this year are: Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital in Antique province; Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital in Aklan province; Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital in Capiz province; and the Guimaras Provincial Hospital.
The DOH 6 sentinel sites monitoring will start from Dec. 21, 2010 to January 5, 2011 while for the tetanus cases due to injuries, from Dec. 21, 2010 to Jan. 25, 2011.*PNA
