Pupils from 12 public schools to benefit from feeding project
Some 600 undernourished Grade 1 pupils from 12 public elementary schools in Iloilo City will benefit from a feeding project of the City Government in partnership with a nutrition, health and wellness company.
The feeding project will start on December 16, at A. Mabini Elementary School.
About 3,000 boxes of Nestle Koko Krunch cereal will be distributed to the children during the 50-day feeding program.
The recipient elementary schools are Buntatala, Balabago, Graciano Lopez-Jaena, A. Mabini, Rizal, A. Bonifacio, A. Montes I, A. Mirasol, Molo I, San Juan, Calaparan, and Mandurriao.
The feeding program complements educational priorities of the administration of Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.
The City Government provides P12,000 subsidy for the milk to be mixed with the cereal food.
It will also seek the support of 12 barangays where the recipient schools are located to sustain the feeding program, said Ma. Mathilde Octavio, executive assistant for education.
Octavio said they will also partner with the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology for the progress monitoring of the feeding initiative on pupils.
Parents will also be encouraged to promote food safety and nutrition in response to the health needs of their children.
The League of Corporate Foundations (LCF) helped shipped the cereal product to the city. LCF is an organization of over 70 operating and grant-making corporate foundation and corporations seeking to provide business solutions to social problems in the country through Corporate Social Responsibility.
The City Government had earlier partnered with Jollibee Foundation for a feeding program benefitting 400 pupils.*
