Short-term courses open for jobseekers
The Iloilo City Government, in partnership with the Technical Educational and Skills Development Authority and Asian Touch International Training Institute, is offering free barista and massage therapy courses.
The initiative complements educational and employment generation priorities of the administration of Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.
The Training for Work scholarship program needs at least 50 students per class to start learning and practicing 15-day barista and 20-day massage therapy skills at Asian Touch building in San Pedro, Molo district from Monday to Saturday.
After which, the students taking barista courses will be fielded for on-the-job-trainings in coffee shops and those taking massage therapy will be undertaking community immersion to apply their skills for 50 days.
The students will then be required to undertake an assessment test to determine their readiness for prospective employment abroad, explained Ma. Mathilde Octavio, executive assistant for education of city mayor.
These trainings are one of the most in-demand skills needed for available jobs in Singapore and the Middle East, she stressed.
After they finish skills training, they will be given priorities in partner placement agencies of Asian Touch for overseas jobs.
Applicants for the short-term courses should be at least 18 years old and high school graduate and bring necessary documents to Asian Touch.
