Joseph, Mary and Lord Jesus
In Biblical times, it was the tradition in Israel that if a woman conceived and had no husband, she will be stoned to death. In Matthew 1:18, “This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. His mother Mary was pledge to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, Joseph the son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him a name Jesus because he will save his people from their sins. All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said to the prophet. The virgin will give birth to a son and they will call him Emmanuel which means God with us. When Joseph woke up, he did what angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.”
Bible says that Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea during the rule of King Herod, the three wise men from the East visited Jesus and offered him their gifts. But they went home, on separate direction and did not obey what King Herod told the three wise men to inform him of Jesus birth so that he will also worship him. This angered the king and ordered the killing of all children from two years old and below.
But earlier, the angel of the Lord warned Joseph in a dream to depart to Egypt and bring with you the child Jesus and your wife Mary. Years later when Herod died, Joseph and Mary and son Jesus went back to Nazareth where the Lord Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, preached the Gospel and do other miraculous activities as the heavenly Father God gave him power. At 33, Jesus ended His divine mission here on earth and after his resurrection, He ascended to heaven and be with His Father forever.*
