Mabilog to seek help from Aquino, solons for city college accreditation
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog will seek assistance from President Benigno Aquino III and two Ilonggo legislators in seeking accreditation for the city community college.
Mabilog said he will ask the help of Ilonggo senator Franklin Drilon and Rep. Jerry Treñas in requesting the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to give recognition and accreditation to the community college.
The city community college is included in the 10-point political agenda of Mabilog in the next three years.
Earlier, the CHED Regional Office 6 said the accreditation for any school of tertiary education such as a city college for schoolyear 2011-2012 is already closed. The accreditation process will resume on 2012.
But Mabilog said he doesn’t want to disappoint deserving high school students, whom he wants to help in seeking higher education.
The construction of the P25-million community college building sponsored by Ilonggo businessman Edgar “Injap” Sia II is ongoing.
The four-storey college building is situated in an 869-square meter lot owned by the city government in Molo district.
Mabilog said he is looking forward to the opening of the college by June 2011 for poor but deserving high school graduates from city schools.
The college will offer four-year college courses and students will only have to pay a very minimal tuition fee and other school expenses.
The city government will also allocate P2 million for the city college to pay for the teachers’ salaries and administrative costs.*PNA
