Roxas City designates firecracker trade zone
ROXAS CITY – All firecracker retailers have been confined to a single area in the city to avoid fire accidents in the trade of firecrackers during the holiday season.
“The accredited firecracker retailers are selling their merchandise along Altavas Street particularly near the Capiz Arc Bridge,” said Senior Insp. Lester Kenneth Gimotea, city fire chief.
Records of Bureau of Fire Protection-Roxas City show there are 59 accredited firecracker retailers in the city who have set up their stalls as early as December 20.
Gimotea, however, said the figure may still increase as the accreditation is still ongoing.
A seminar on fire safety is being conducted by firemen for the retailers to ensure a safe sale of firecracker in the designated trade zone.
The seminar is part of the accreditation requirements.
Gimoteo added that an “Oplan Iwas Paputok, Iwas Sunog Ngayong Pasko at Bagong Taon” is also being conducted by the BFP to remind residents of possible fire hazards like Christmas lights and fire crackers during the holiday celebration.
The campaign is the BFP’s proactive measure to minimize fire incidents which usually increase steeply in December due to the celebration of the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The fire safety consciousness campaign will be complemented by the fire truck and BFP personnel visibility.*PIA
