Aklan farmers, fisherfolk get P600,000 in livelihood
Farmers and fisherfolks from Aklan received more than P600,000 in livelihood projects from the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the National Agricultural and Fisheries Council (NAFC).
The livelihood projects include P206,580 worth of motorized fishing boats for the Patitibyog it Maintok ng Managat it Ibajay (PAMMI) fisherfolk association in Ibajay and P229,420 worth of motorized drift grill net for the Makato Fisherfolk Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Makato town.
NAFC also granted the Calimbajan Rural Improvement Club Association (CRICA) of Makato P180,000 worth of duck and egg production project.
The projects were turned over to the beneficiaries in rites led by NAFC Executive Director Noel Juliano and Ric Provido of the DA 6 Regional Agricultural and Fisheries council.
Coordinator Arla Arenga said the project, under the Livelihood Enhancement for Agriculture Development (LEAD) project of the DA-NAFC, is funded through the RP-Japan Increased Food Production Program, which started in 2000.
She said it aims to help fisherfolk and farmers in the region improve their livelihood through the LEAD program.*PNA
