2,000 ‘Dagoy’ dolls now ready for Dinagyang Festival
For the first time in 40 years of staging the Dinagyang Festival, the organizer has
decided to come up with a collector’s item in the form of ‘Dagoy’ doll which is the festival’s official mascot.
Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc Executive Director Benito Jimena said the Sampaguita
Gardens based in Aklan, which they have commissioned to make 2,000 dolls, already delivered the items to their office.
Sampaguita Gardens is the maker of ‘Precious Moments’ gift items.
‘Dagoy’ is a 3D image of an Aeta warrior which was conceived three years ago to help promote the festival.
The doll which stands nine-inch tall is a smaller version of ‘Dagoy’.
Jimena said 1, 000 pieces of said items will be bought by Jollibee Foods Corporation, which in turn will be sold at P500 to their customers.
Jimena said the foundation will be holding a Dressing Up Dagoy Dolls Contest on Jan 12, and the winning designs will be used as official costumes of the remaining 1,000 pieces.
He added that participants to the Dressing Up Dagoy Dolls Contest are members of the Designer’s Guild of Iloilo.
Jimena mentioned that because of the intricate designs by Ilonggo artists, probably the remaining 1,000 dolls will be sold at P1,000 each. (PNA)
