Suckers in our midst
Whoever says, "a sucker is born every minute...," must be given a lifetime recognition, have such phrase carved in his niche for its prophetic effect and truthfulness.
Take the case of two Ilonggo solons desperately moving hell to discredit the administration of Gov. Niel D. Tupas, Sr., by having the gall to bring, a supposedly local concern, to the House of Congress.
However, 5th district congressman Rolex Suplico and 2nd district congresswoman Judy Syjuco, seemed cannot afford to dilly-dally their act of putting the good governor in the defensive stand. They thought for awhile, the more constantly they distort the truth, it would force the governor to bow his head, and in bended knees beg for mercy.
The duo reportedly filed a resolution in Congress seeking congressional probe on the P100 million loan entered last year by Gov. Niel D. Tupas with the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) for the purchase of heavy equipment for the province. Their act was purely malicious in an attempt to stain the good name of the governor, no matter which angle one would prefer to look at it.
True, acquiring new dump trucks cost a lot but the old ones have already been worn out after more than a decade in service. Besides, maintaining the old ones are impractical in terms of continuous repair. After all, the five districts are the direct beneficiaries since improvement of their roads and other infrastructure projects would also pave way for their socio-economic progress.
Suffice to say, the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Tupas and LBP was above board having been unanimously approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, but surprisingly a bloated man from the capitol refused to have it signed.
Suplico and Syjuco, overwhelmed by the documents fed to them by the same people who made a sarzuela by filing a TRO against their peer last year, had made themselves a laughing stock as a result of their moronic act.
They thought they had found an exclusive mine (defined: scandal) strong enough to shake and explode the capitol and turn it into rubles. Well, well, you are in for a surprise. You may not be aware of this but there is an unseen hand behind this entire scheme. Come to think of it, 2007 elections is fast approaching. Ask yourselves who is running who, and definitely you'll get the answer.
I tell you no amount of black propaganda can destroy the image of the old man from the capitol. The governor has delivered the goods without hitch. He is under control of the situation. He has no time to political bickering. He has only one focus - to serve his constituents; nothing less, nothing more.
His 9-point Agenda has been gaining a momentum paving the Province of Iloilo on its way to progress under his stewardship.
This old man has been blessed of so many things since the time he stepped on the capitol ground.
The blessings have been countless and continuously pouring like rains from heaven; in fact it is already overflowing in abundance.
Only in his time the New Iloilo Provincial Capitol Building has been realized, and soon the only "state-of the-art" Iloilo Rehabilitation Center in Brgy. Nanga, Pototan, another first outside Metro Manila, becomes operational in a month or two, not to mention the on-going construction of the New Iloilo Airport of international standards in Sta.Barbara-Cabatuan area.
Even the new Iloilo Provincial Capitol Building will be operating within this year its own sub-power station. That means a big yearly savings which could cost millions of pesos to the provincial government.
In his recent SOPA (state of the province address) the governor has once again recollected what he has achieved for his constituents and the many things the province of lloilo to thank for, in terms of the basic services delivered from agriculture, health, education, infrastructures, peace and order, and many others.
And soon the "salary increase across the board"; will be implemented. What else could we ask for?
Ever wonder why the governor has no time to entertain fabricated issues from the remaining "capitol barkers" hired by his detractors? These "barkers" however are still enjoying the trust of their benefactors as they are doing great in their barking. Pity these "barkers" are, just like their master, it's their only way to survive. No barking, no money... a classic example of suckers in our midst.
