Measures vs. abusive taxi drivers underway
Measures have been made to curb abusive taxi drivers who are victimizing visitors and tourists arriving at Iloilo Domestic Airport. The initiative was made by City Councilor Jed Mabilog after an unpleasant experience brought to his attention by a friend who visited the city for a business meeting.
As Chairman of the Committee on Trade, Commerce and Industry, the councilor is concerned about the rising number of complaints regarding lack of discipline, courtesy and abusive taxi drivers, particularly at the city's domestic airport which could adversely affect the efforts of the city government in attracting tourists and investors to come to the city.
In a meeting called by Mabilog together with Director Allan Java of Air Transportation Office (ATO), Director Porferio Clavel of Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) measures were made to identify and penalize taxi operators and drivers who are found to have committed the violations.
Passengers arriving at the airport will be given courtesy cards where they can indicate the plate and body number of the taxi and the complaint they would like to file for LTFRB to make the appropriate action. The cards will be made available through donors and be distributed by volunteers of H.A.L.I.G.I. Foundation, Inc. This measure will soon be extended to malls and hotels around the City.
