RAFC 6 selects new set of Officers
The Regional Agriculture and Fishery Council (RAFC) 6 has selected its new set of Officers for the Calendar Year (CY) 2006-2008 at the DA War Room recently. Mr. Ricardo P. Provido was elected as Chairman for the third time now.
Director Jindra Linda L. Demeterio, the OIC Regional Executive Director of DA-RFU 6, said that the election of the new set of officers will strongly enhanced people participation and empowerment in agriculture and fishery development through sectoral representation in agricultural policy making bodies.
"This will ensure that the policies, plans and programs are formulated and executed to satisfy the needs of its clientèle and likewise to use bottom-up, self-reliant farm systems approach that will emphasize social justice, equity, productivity and sustainability in the use of agriculture and fishery resources," she added.
The newly elected officers are: Chairman - Ricardo P. Provido, Jr.; Vice Chairpersons- (Private) Edna Viterbo, (Government) Jindra Linda L. Demeterio; Treasurer - Felicito Tidon; Auditor - Dr. Reynaldo Dusaran and; Press Relation Officer - Dr. Ambrosio Villorente;
For the Sectoral Committee Chairmen the following were elected: Food Crops - Mike Baylon; Commercial Crops - Imelda Fernandez; Livestock & Feed Crops - Lily Ong; Fishery & Aquatic Resources - Antonio Arnaiz; Agri and Fishery Mechanization - Magdalena Villaruz and; Marketing - Florendo Besana
Likewise, the following are the newly elected Provincial Agricultural and Fishery Council (PAFC) and Independent Component City Agricultural & Fishery Council (ICCAFC ) Chairmen for the province and Independent Component City: Aklan - Dr. Ambrosio Villorente; Capiz - Edna Viterbo; Antique - Antonio Arnaiz; Iloilo - Felicito Tidon; Negros Occidental - Jocelyn Palacpac; and Bacolod City - Mike Baylon
Director Demeterio inducted the newly elected RAFC/PAFC/ICCAFC officers in a simple ceremony after the election of RAFC officers. She said that the DA will provide each sectoral committee with one (1) technical staff to assist in the implementation of its programs.
The Council conducted its election of officers every two years. It is created under Executive Order 116, Rule 113.1 of the Department of Agriculture Administrative Order No. 6, series of 1998. It aims to provide a consultative and continuing discussions within the agriculture and fishery sectors of the national economy; act as an integrative and coordinating bodies for agriculture and fisheries modernization; serve as advisory, monitoring, and evaluating bodies; link the DA and its attached agencies with the local government units, business sectors and civil society; and help ensure the success of the programs and activities of DA and its attached agencies.
The RAFC is composed of Chairpersons of region-wide organizations, PAFC Chairpersons, Independent-Component Cities Agriculture and Fishery Council (ICCAFC) Chairpersons, Regional Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (FARMC) representatives elected from among FARMC representatives to the PAFC level, leaders of the business and academe organizations, and government sector representatives.
