Without the White Coat
Iloilo Doctors’ College of Medicine, Inc......25 years
September 21, 2006 maybe another celebration of the declaration of Martial Law but for the graduates and alumni of the Iloilo Doctors’ College of Medicine, Inc.(IDCMI) it is the 25th year founding anniversary.
The year was 1987 when the college of medicine saw its first light in this world being the second medical school to open in this region and the first for the private sector. IDCMI came a long way in the medical field that produced a lot of successful doctors and physicians in their respected fields.
If we have to list down all those who passed on its hallways and under its gates, it would be a long list of achievers - may it be in the academe, research, and the field of medical practice. As an alumni, IDCMI will always have a part in our hearts and lives. The memories of challenges and hardships may have been gone but the experiences, knowledge and wisdom from our mentors remained in our hearts.
The first medical student association in this region was started in IDCMI. It is the memory, we all valued and shared, that keeps us coming back to our "dear" alma mater. Some of us maybe involved in continuing to pass on the light of knowledge among the medical students or those expertise that we garner in our respected specialties. It is always been a proud feeling for a former alumnus of IDCMI to come back and to teach. That feeling of joy that you have, becoming a teacher among its graduates.
The table and chair now made a different turn. The student, who used to listen to the lectures, is now giving the lectures himself. What a wonderful and a beautiful feeling. Thus, we may say "I am a proud IDCian" passing on that medical knowledge and expertise among the few and the privileged.
In part of its celebration with the medicine week with a theme " Makabayang Manggagamot Dangal ng Lahing Pilipino", which will start on September 21 to 23, an opening mass at the IDC covered gym was held on its first day. A sportsfest is being held today and a scientific symposium on September 23 will then follow. The scientific symposium will cover some varied topics from dermatology to cardio-thoracic surgery, urology, cardiology, orthopedics, psychiatry, and some important topics in this unending field of medical practice. A fellowship on the night of the 23rd will cap the series of events.
Yesterday, September 21, IDCM once again opened its doors to its graduates and alumni for them to reminisce those fun-filled and those not-so good memories.
The alumni of IDCMI will once again get into fellowship with one another. Those who had never seen each other for ages will be sharing back unforgettable memories and laughters.
Under the leadership of Dr. Alejandro A. Rivera, Jr. the president of IECI and IDCMI , we will surely see a progressive college that will move on to the next generation.
To my alma mater, happy 25th founding anniversary. Cheers and more power! To the dean of the college of medicine, under the auspices and guidance of Dr. Muriel J. Dañucop ( I would like to thank her for the challenges and inspirations she gave for the graduates and alumni), keep up the good and honorable job.
