MIWD extends services to Barangay Sooc
The City of Iloilo, the Barangay Council of Sooc and the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the installation of water supply system of Barangay Sooc, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
Mayor Jerry Treñas, Punong Barangay Manuel Villavicencio and Interim General Manager Edwin Reyes signed the MOA on behalf of Iloilo City, Barangay Sooc and MIWD, respectively.
The agreement calls for the construction and provision of distribution lines and water supply system of Barangay Sooc with a project cost of P3 million to be completed within six months from its execution. The City government will contribute P2 million as equity of the total project cost for the envisioned water supply, which shall be paid to the MIWD on or before the end of March 2007.
Reyes said that MIWD could not guarantee a 24-hour water supply for the barangay, but rather it would be provided based on its availability in the distribution line.
He said, however, that MIWD would exert diligent efforts to provide continuous supply to Barangay Sooc.
Once materialized, the water supply system will be owned, operated and maintained by MIWD.
Residents of the barangay will apply individually for their water service connection with the MIWD. Each applicant will be required to pay only P2,500.00 as installation fee for each service connection payable in six monthly installments after a down payment of P700.00.
It was provided in the MOA, too, that Barangay Sooc, through Villavicencio, will signify its approval for all service applications within the barangay.
It was further agreed that the barangay would secure and provide the necessary right of way and unhampered access for the repair and maintenance of the system.
It is also duly-bound to provide safeguard measures to protect the water meter installed within the area from being stolen.
Present during the MOA signing were Ma. Luisa Segovia, member of the MIWD Board of Directors, City Councilor Jeffrey Ganzon, chairman of the Committee on Urban Poor, Amarylis Josephine Castro, MIWD Commercial Services Department Manager, and city councilors Eduardo Peñaredondo and Jose Espinosa III.
