'Clash of the titans' in Guimaras with Lopez comeback?
The political arena in the Province of Guimaras will reportedly see a major battle of the island's power-brokers with the purported comeback of former Governor and Congresswoman Emily Lopez.
Now serving as Ambassador-at-Large for Italy, Lopez fondly called "Inday Emily" by loyalists is allegedly out to redeem her seat in the Capitol. With her alleged comeback comes the renewed tie-up to last-termer Congressman Edgar Espinosa and longtime trusted aide, former Board Member Gerry Yucon. If plans and talks materialize, the over 75,000 voters of Guimaras will see an Espinosa for Congressman, Lopez for Governor and Yucon for Vice Governor team-up. The 'power-trio' is expected to face off with exiting Governor Rahman Nava for the congressional seat, Jordan Mayor Felipe Nava for Governor while it remains unclear who is set to be pitted against Yucon.
To complete the slate are former mayors, vice mayors and municipal councilors who were then known to be Lopez proteges and supporters. One source said Yucon has been spotted making the rounds with barangay leaders of the Lopezes.
TNT also gathered information of 'secret' visits in Guimaras by businessmen and corporate personalities identified with the Lopez Group of Companies Interests are reportedly renewed on Lopez-backed initiatives of a Guimaras ecozone, completion of the Guimaras feeder airport, a five-star golf course investment and the multi-billion planned Guimaras bridge that will link the province to other Western Visayas provinces.
