City Mayor Jerry Treñas turns 50 years old today (December 4) with more hopes and better dreams for Iloilo City.
A mass will be held today at the old city hall building and snacks will also be served in celebration of the mayor's birthday.
Treñas, who underwent a gall stone operation last month, appeared to lose weight but he has been busy seeking different aids from other countries, be it on technical or financial aspect.
Treñas said the city is getting a lot of support from verious funding agencies. Currently, the city is a recipient of a technical study from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The city is also expecting help from the GTZ and Australian Aid (AusAid). The GTZ, a German firm, will help the city in conceptualizing a program to hasten the processing of business and building permits at the Iloilo City Hall through computerization. The computerization in processing building and business permit is set to take effect next year. The computerization was meant to speed up the processing of the applications and same time cut down red tape in the city government.
The city is also waiting for help from the AusAid in the promotion of the Dinagyamg festival. The influx of visitors in next year's annual festival is projected to increase. Just recently, the United Nations Development Program has chosen Dingayang festival as one of the tools to promote UN's Millennium Development Goal (MDG).
