Comelec assures Western Visayas has enough inspectors
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Regional Office 6 has assured that Western Visayas has enough Board of Election Inspectors to serve in the May 14, 2007 polls.
Comelec Assistant Regional Director Tomas Valera, in an interview, said that based on their experience, Western Visayas never lacked volunteers to serve as inspectors during election time.
He expressed hope they would not have the same predicament faced by other regions in the coming May election.
Valera said they would be requesting the teachers and some local government unit employees who have the probity and competence to serve as inspectors. The Comelec official, however, could not yet give the exact number of inspectors that they would need, considering the fact that they are still finalizing the number of precincts they would put up.
Three inspectors are being needed for every precinct established, thus, the Comelec will be hiring some 20,000 teachers for the election.
In Region VI, there are more or less 3.6 million voters expected to troop to the precincts to cast their votes.
The province of Negros Occidental has the highest number of voters with about 1.4 to 1.5 million. Next are the province and city of Iloilo with about 1.1 million voters.
Capiz province has about 400,000 voters while Aklan and Antique provinces have around 300,000. Guimaras has about 90,000 voters for this year's elections. (PNA)
