* "You're getting paid to play music, to answer the phone, meet a lot of friends, talk to people, surf the Internet for free and meet business associates. It's not monotonous. I'm very happy and I love the job, that's why until now I'm still a jock"
He's got a cool voice. He has a sense of humor. He's intelligent and charming.
He's no less than Pancho Villa, the man who keeps you on your toes while you're listening to 93.5 Campus Radio AYOS! from one to five in the afternoon.
This 27-year-old lover of rock and jazz music isn't entirely just limited to the dj's booth. This writer found out that he's the son of Mario R. Lumacad, who has trained boxing greats like Rolando Navarete and William Magahin and manages Elorde Boxing Club in Sucat, Parañaque, Manila. In fact, Pancho has given boxing training in Winners Gym before.

KV: Why did you choose Pancho Villa as your dj's name?
PV: That's a boxer's name. To pay tribute to my father, I name myself after boxers.
KV: What were the names that you assumed before becoming Pancho Villa AT 93.5 Campus Radio Ayos?
PV: Speedy, Mike Mc Cloude at IC FM and Jackie Gonzales at Z100 Iloilo.
KV: What other sports are you into?
PV: I was a baseball player for the Philippine team since I was 12 years old. We won the Bronco Little League in California, USA, Pony League at Hilo Hawaii, Japan Little League at Kyoto and Osaka, Japan. I was a Blue Boys of the Philippines and Philippine Youth Softball member. I got a free schooling in Political Science at the Lyceum of the Philippines because of this.
KV: Political Science sounds like a far cry from dj-ing. How did your career as a dj came to be?
PV: I was working in a food chain as a telemarketer. A jock called me up. Instead of ordering food, she ordered me (laughs). She wanted me to try out as a disc jockey. It all started there. Then I became a jock in Manila.

KV: So, you're a Manila boy....
PV: I grew up in Manila. I've been in Iloilo for 10 years.
KV: Back to being a disc jockey. What happened next?
PV: When I was here in Iloilo, a good friend, Christian, invited me to join a station. I was Speedy then. Patay na si Speedy kasi bad sia, e. Joke (laughs).
KV: How long have you been in this career?
PV: Nine years and still going.
KV: Can you imagine yourself still a dj in five years?
PV: Even in 10 years, yes. I love this job.
KV: What is it about this job that you like?
V: It's not a job, it's a hobby. You're getting paid to play music, to answer the phone, meet a lot of friends, talk to people, surf the Internet for free and meet business associates. It's not monotonous.
I'm very happy and I love the job, that's why until now I'm still a jock. It's the best job in the world.
And, we don't get to wear uniforms! Bwahahaha!
KV: How do you deal with your fans, especially the females who normally gets 'kilig' when they hear you.
PV: I don't call them fans, I call them friends. Also, it's not true that if you're a dj, you're 'babaero.' We're not." Theme song ko nga is "Bababaero, bababaero , babaero daw ako. Sinong may sabing makating labi na di di naman totoo" hahaha. You see, pag nasira ka doon sa isang tao, you're not destroying yourself but the station.
Well, we do go out and I act like an older brother. I help them out with their problems with their boyfriends. Seriously, after my advice, 80 percent of them reconcile with their boyfriends. My 1 to 3 pm is Talk to Papa and there we discuss problems and listeners can also share their happy thoughts. The 3 to 5 pm schedule is Three Play where listeners can request songs. You should try listening to it especially if you're bored or alone. I make a good company, di ba, Kathy? hahahaha
KV: Speaking of girls, any wife or girlfriend?
PV: I'm searching. Kasi, pihikan ako e (choosy).
KV: What do you look for in a girl?
PV: I want her to be just like me. Someone who is fun to be with, sweet and intelligent. I'm not into physical appearances. Pero plus factor pag seksi and morena and may dimple. I'm more on the long-term relationship kasi. Someone I could talk to and tell her about my problems. Yung masarap kausap ba. Someone I can punch on the face. Joke! (laughs)
KV: You're so funny. Are you talkative by nature?
PV: Yes. It just comes from the heart. I mean what I say. It just comes out naturally.
KV: Last question, if there's a song that you can identify with, what is it and why?
PV: "Crazy Love" by Poco. That's my favorite song. It talks about the crazy thing called love that really drives people crazy. Parang ako hehehe. I guess it's because I'm crazy when it comes to love hahahaha.
