Humanities 101
Theory is not enough. One has to apply theory in real life. Like the move of Dr. Mcdonald Beldia, adviser of Humanities 101 Class in West Visayas State University (WVSU) that after a semester of teaching his students about humanities, they held an exhibit last Oct. 5, 2007.
On exhibit were photos of Western Visayas churches, images of the Renaissance period, visual arts, music, recycled bags, footwear, albums, frames, canisters and decors, among others.
There were T-shirts that stated, "God is enough," "Virginity is not a dignity, but lack of opportunity," 'If a book about failures don't sell, is it a success?", "Love peace, no to worry," "Books may perish but knowledge persists," and "Prayer works."
According to Janus de Guzman, vice chairman of the class, the exhibit was an adventure of the desirables and undesirables. "It took us months to prepare for this culminating activity. This has given us realization of our genuine love for the arts," he said. He also thanked Dr. Beldia for his encouragement.
Dr. Pablo Subong, president of WVSU, said that the activity was one way of measuring the effectiveness of classroom education.
The exhibit's theme was, "Reaching the zenith of arts by breaking limits."
