Last Nov. 1, 2007, All Saints Day, some 12,000 people flocked to the Garden of the Ascension to visit the tombs of their dearly departed as well as have fun. After all, being in a memorial park is a celebration of life – the chance of togetherness among family members.
According to Jaresh Ng, resident manager, it's the first time in the history of the park that there was an air show and fireworks display competition. After the mass, children and adults were entertained with the white magic of Prof. James Narvaes; reggae music from the Katukamus Band; palayok and pabitin at the Kidz Korner, trick or treat, bone hunting and balloons and bags of candies. Everybody had their face painted for free.
There was also a foodfest participated in by Mang Inasal, Shakey's, Zagu, Thirsty, Mister Donut, Chik-In Burger, Francoos, Selecta Ice Cream and Nestle.
There was a horror parade wherein an ambulance containing children in Halloween costumes, is being pulled by a hearse. Another highlight is the Halloween Costume Contest, wherein a death bride won the first prize.
In bingo, the winners received P3,000; P1,500 and P500 for the first, second and third prizes respectively.
On that day, the Quan Yin billboard was unveiled. It is a Chinese garden, the newest section in the Garden of the Ascension, pre-fabricated in China and to be assembled here. Guan Yin is the bodhisattva of compassion as venerated by East Asian Buddhists, usually as a female. She is also known as the Chinese Bodhisattva of Compassion.
