Treñas unaware on use of 'illegal drugs money' in recent elections
City Mayor Jerry Treñas could not confirm whether or not there is truth to reports that money from illegal drugs flowed during the recent local and barangay elections.
The information on the use of illegal drugs money by some politicians in the last elections spread in the nooks and cranny of the city following the recent order of Department of Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez Sr. to Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 regional director Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas to intensify the campaign against illegal drugs in the city.
"If it is true, it is very sad," Treñas quipped.
Meanwhile, Treñas yesterday met with Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA) chief Sr. Supt. Roybel Sanchez and officials of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 to draw the line on when and how to launch drug operations.
For quite a time, there is a lull in the operation against the illegal drugs in the city. There were conflicts from the PDEA and local police operatives in the conduct of the police operation.
Treñas said the meeting could draw a clear cut policy in the conduct of illegal drugs operation and at the same time the use of reward system to lead the arrests of suspected illegal drug pushers and the filing of drug charges against them.
The chief executive admitted that illegal drugs is a "big problem in the city" and he wants it addressed.
