St. Joseph School celebrates 36thFoundation Day
St. Joseph School (Iloilo) Inc. has proven its best in imparting quality Christian education to the youth of Iloilo.
The non-stock, non-profit institution established by the Garcia couple, Roberto de Leon Garcia, Jr. and Maria Lourdes Josefina Ilagan Garcia, along the Benigno Aquino Avenue stands out to be one of Iloilo City's finest private schools.
The story of the school is no joke. SJS passed trials and challenges as the school sought its own identity in order to prove itself in the academic world.
It all started in 1971 when Mrs. Garcia opened a nursery school with 60 students at the defunct bowling alley owned by the Archdiocese of Jaro. The succeeding years witnessed an increase in population so the search for a bigger place began. By the year 1982, the school opened its doors to welcome its first batch of Grade One students. The following year, an additional level was added until it slowly completed its elementary level by 1988. Thus, its former name St. Joseph Kinder School became known as St. Joseph Grade School (SJGS).
In 1986, given its steady growth, SJGS transferred from Gen. Blanco Street to its permanent site along Benigno Aquino Avenue. Beginning with a few classrooms and some offices, SJGS slowly constructed its building to include more classrooms, the library, laboratory, prayer room and the gym.
After 31 years of phenomenal growth, in 2002, the Garcia's, together with their five children, realized the need to further provide its elementary graduates a continuation of the program being provided by the school. So the following year gave rise to the High School Department beginning with First Year to Third Year. With such development, St. Joseph Grade School is now named St. Joseph School.
September of last year, the school constructed the Our Lady of Lourdes Building. Five classrooms, two laboratory rooms and a canteen are housed on this structure.
On March 15, 2008, Saturday, SJS will celebrate its 36thFoundation Day with the theme, "Family: A Museum of Memories." It will be a day filled with programs, games, food booths, and a lot of surprises and gimmicks for every Josephian family. The Search for Mr. and Miss High School highlights the foundation day at 6 P.M. in the school gym.
For 36 years, St. Joseph School has proven its value in imparting quality Christ-centered education. The education is achieved by fulfilling its objectives with excellence under the guidance of St. Joseph, its patron. SJS continues to serve as one of the pillars in nurturing better and productive citizens of society.
More power to all and we say, WE ARE PROUD TO BE JOSEPHIANS!
