Child mortality to be discussed in writers summit on child survival
Writers from all over Asia will gather together in the first region-wide writers summit advocating child health and survival on April 10-11, 2008 in Manila. The two-day event will bring together key stakeholders from Asia.
The writers summit aims to address obstacles and propose resolutions in a collective effort to drastically reduce if not totally eradicate the incidence of child mortality in the region. The worldwide cases of child mortality are pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria, neonatal sepsis, preterm delivery and asphyxia at birth.
The summit which is arranged by Geiser Maclang Marketing Communications Inc. is using education as its primary tool in addressing the problems on child mortality. The ground-breaking media driven initiative marks a significant milestone in the Asian region's fight against ignorance which leads to diseases that costs the lives of children worldwide. The importance of the media's role will help in the eradication of the child mortality causes.
There would be discussions on media's role in Health Issue Communication. The forum is designed to equip media practitioners with effective communication strategies in child health and Invasive Pneumococcal Disease (IPD) prevention.
The UNITE and ASAP (Asian Strategic Alliance for Pneumococcal Disease Prevention, which is headed by a Filipina will discuss on how to control IPD in the region through awareness, surveillance, advocacy and prevention.
There will also be a march for Child Survival at Museo Pambata. It is public initiative which is projected to create international awareness for the "9 interventions for Child Survival," an integral part of which is vaccination versus IPD.
