Ilonggo households take part in CES survey
A total of 131 households from the 16 barangays of the province of Iloilo are currently taking part in the Consumer Expectation Survey (CES) being conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO) in partnership with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
Nelida Amolar, NSO-Iloilo Provincial Statistician, said that NSO trained personnel have started to interview respondents of the CES survey last April 1, 2008. The CES survey is set to end on April 11.
Among the provinces in Western Visayas, Amolar said, Iloilo has the largest total number of sample households.
The CES is a household based survey on the consumers' assessment of their financial situation, the economic condition of the country and the overall performance of the government.
A complementary survey to BSP's Business Expectations Survey (BES), the CES is administered on a sample basis at the household level drawn through a stratified multi-staging random sampling.
The survey's core questions cover three areas of consumer sentiment that include personal finances, business and buying conditions.
In the CES survey, the NSO shall be responsible for the data collection and encoding of the questionnaires while BSP shall handle the generation of tables and analysis of the results.
Amolar said the CES has been conducted in the National Capital Region for ten consecutive quarters, from July 2004 to October 2006 with a total sample of about 2,500 households.
Starting January 2007 until January 2008 the survey was conducted by the BSP. From then on, about 2,500 households from selected areas in 52 provinces outside NCR were also included.
The result of the CES is expected to guide planners in forecasting the direction of change of the economy as well as the behavior of key indicators such as inflation rate, interest rates and exchange rates. (PIA)
