10T Capiceño students to take NCAE
ROXAS CITY -- Some 61 testing centers in Capiz are ready for the nationwide career examination today (Aug. 27).
Education Supervisor Roel Bermejo of the Department of Education's (DepEd) Capiz Division disclosed that all is set here for this year's National Career Assessment Examination (NCAE).
Bermejo revealed that some 10,103 graduating high school students from Capiz' public and private schools will take said examination tomorrow at the 61 designated testing centers in the province.
He added that of said examinees, a total of 9,348 graduating students are from the 51 public high schools while the remaining 718 students come from the private schools here.
Education Secretary Jesli Lapus has earlier announced that the DepEd is all set to administer to some 1.5 million fourth year high school students the NCAE on August 27, 2008.
The test, which is intended for graduating students from private and public schools, will determine the career path best for a student after graduation from high school based on individual test results, Lapus said.
He added that it will also minimize the mismatch in career choices vis-a-vis skills and inclinations among high school students.
Lapus explained that the annual conduct of the NCAE gives the students and the parents an idea on the field of endeavor most suited to the graduating students thus, allowing for better decision on their choice of career.
In addition, the NCAE also measures a senior high school student's potentials or inclination in such areas as general scholastic aptitude (GSA), technical-vocational aptitude (TVA), entrepreneurial skills, nonverbal ability and occupational interest
He stressed that the NCAE results are at best recommendatory and are not a requisite for admission to college.
This year's examinees have increased by 20% -- from 1.2 million in 2007 to 1.5 million this year, Lapus said, adding that of the total number of this year's examinees, 1.2 million come from public high school while only over 300,000 examinees come from the private schools.
According to him, this year's NCAE will also include 1,200 Out-of-School Youths who are applying for scholarship with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
Last year, some 10,369 of the 10,588 or 98.11 percent registered graduating high school students from both public and private schools in Capiz took the 2007 NCAE. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
