Thousands attend Black Nazarene procession
SAPIAN, Capiz – Some five thousand people from different places attended the procession of the original image of the Jesus Nazarene of Quiapo last Friday here.
During that day Mayor Arturo Orosco Sr., Ph. D., who was celebrating his birthday, also delivered his State of the Municipality Address (SOMA).
Orosco's SOMA highlighted his accomplishments for 365 days as mayor of Sapian such as the multi-million beautification of town plaza and Barangay Lonoy plaza which according to him 90% of the budget come from his personal funds.
It was learned that Orosco and his family own and run nine branches of St. Francis of Assisi in Manila which has a main campus in Las Piñas City.
Orosco also said that the town acquired heavy equipment such as dumptrucks, rollers, graders, garbage compactor, bus, fire truck, patrol car, ambulance and many others.
Dr. Omega Odiaman Bornales, president of Philippine Dental Assn. Capiz chapter went to Sapian to conduct dental mission for free as requested by the mayor. The blood letting was also conducted during Orosco's birthday which benefited some 200 residents.
Meanwhile, the Black Nazarene of Quiapo returned to its place of origin on Sunday via Caticlan, Kalibo, Aklan.
The said occasion was also attended by Dr. Evangeline Orosco, Vice Mayor Ralp Odrunia, Sanggunian Bayan Members, departments heads, brgy officials, tourists, folks and many others.
