City designates selling and buying areas for firecrackers and pyrotechnic materials
The city government here has designated several firecracker zones for the selling and buying of firecrackers and pyrotechnic materials in preparation for the holiday season.
Executive Order No. 50 signed by Mayor Jerry P. Treñas Thursday designated the vacant lots in front of Vic Imperial Appliance Center at Iznart St., City Proper; Molo Plaza in Molo district; Mandurriao Plaza fronting the police station in Mandurriao district and Jaro Plaza in front of SM-Save More Mandaue in Jaro district as firecracker zones.
In Lapaz district, the designated areas are Lapaz plaza and promenade and in Arevalo district, the streets of Quezon, JV Jocson to Osmeña, Bonifacio and Yulo and Brgy. Mohon.
Treñas said the city government is duty-bound to ensure the safety of the public as the holiday season encourages ordinary people to sell to earn a living.
However, vendors should prepare plastic cover for their firecracker display, ample supply of water and sand and to place the "no smoking and no testing" signages in their stalls.
Vendors are also instructed to coordinate with the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) and barangay officials for instruction on where they can mount their display.
"The selling and buying at any place other than those in designated areas shall not be allowed. Firecrackers and pyrotechnic materials being sold at any other place shall be confiscated by any peace officer and shall be turned over to appropriate authorities for inventory," the order stated.
The mayor also issued a strict instruction that minors are not allowed to engage in vending, neither will they be allowed to buy the same.
Any violation committed according to the executive order would mean ground for cancellation of privileges extended to the vendor.
Legitimate businessmen however, who are selling firecrackers and pyrotechnic materials within their establishments, are not covered by the order. (PNA)
