RC of Iloilo West and RC of Ulsan Nambu conduct tree-planting, feeding activities
Officers and members of Rotary Club of Ulsan Nambu (South Korea) visited Iloilo over the weekend to conduct community service activities in partnership with Rotary Club of Iloilo West headed by its president Filoteo "Ting" Palmares III.
Rotary Club of Ulsan Nambu (South Korea) was led by its President Kim Yang Do and President-Elect Kim Chi Kwon.
The two clubs entered into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to establish friendship and to strengthen the relationship of Filipinos and Koreans to promote oneness in the achievement of various goals for the good of the community.
On Friday, November 14, Rotary Club of Ulsan Nambu and Rotary Club of Iloilo West conducted tree-growing project and distribution of water pumps in Brgy. Magsaysay, La Paz district. Palmares said the urban greening project focuses on establishing a barangay tree park composed of various beneficial species of medicinal herbs, fruit-bearing as well as shade-giving trees that could help absorb air pollutants like carbon dioxide at the same time giving-off fresh oxygen for the community residents while enhancing the beauty of the metropolis' landscape.
The following day, November 15, the group proceeded to the town of Sta. Barbara also to conduct tree planting activity and feeding and gift-giving to Day Care children.
The Sta. Barbara activities were made possible with the help of the DSWD-Sta. Barbara, IDCMF Inc.-PHP, Philippine Nurses Association of Arizona and the local government unit headed by Mayor Isabelo Maquino.
The tree planting activity was held at the riverbank in Brgy. Pal-agon to help mitigate the aftermath of typhoon Frank that brought widespread flooding and caused massive streambank erosion along the Aganan River and other major waterways.
The tree planting activities was in line with the objective of the Rotary to encourage and foster the application of ideal of service by every Rotarian to his personal, business and community life towards the protection of the environment and maintenance of a balanced ecology as being advanced by Rotarian Dong Kurn Lee, President, Rotary International amid the current phenomena of extreme climate change and global warming.
