Btac Nuevo Football Club to vie for world record
Barotac Nuevo Football Club (BNFC) will try to break the record set by the Australian Football Club on Guinness Book of World Records on non-stop playing of football.
Duffy Botavara, Secretary General of the Iloilo Football Association, said the plan was decided by football officials during a meeting held in Barotac Nuevo recently.
Botavara said BNFC will try to break the record of the Australian Football Club playing football straight up to 31 hours and 45 minutes. The score for that game is 210-193.
He said Elmer Bedia, once a member of the Philippine National Team, had organized two teams, each composed of 20 players to play the game.
The record-setting football match will be held on December 28-29, 2008 at the Barotac Nuevo International Football Field.
Botavara said that they are going to break the record by playing football straight, no break, at more or less 34 hours.
"This could be a merrier Christmas and a colorful new year for all the Barotacnons in particular and the Filipino people in general if we will succeed with our plan," said Botavara in an interview.
Aside from Botavara who is the official representative of the Iloilo Football Association, the said meeting was also attended by Mr. Rodolfo Sarrosa as president of the Barotac Nuevo Football Club; Belbin Biñas – vice president Elmer Bedia Jose Bretaña – representing Barotac Nuevo Mayor Hernan Biron; Sonny Causing - Treasurer and board members and other members of the club.
As proof of the Barotacnon's expertise in the game, its elementary and secondary level were declared champion in the just concluded Iloilo Integrated Meet at the Iloilo Sports Complex.
Aside from the Local Government Unit of Barotac Nuevo, the said plan was also supported by Iloilo 4th District Congressman Ferjenil Biron. (Roy Cejar)
