First ever book on the Maasin watershed to be launched
The Kahublagan sang Panimalay Foundation, Inc. (KSPFI), a non-government organization advocating for watershed approach in environmental development, is launching the first ever book on the Maasin Watershed from both literary and technical perspectives.
The book "Watershed Walk" is authored by Jessica Salas, president of the KSPFI, who worked on it for four years.
The book launching will be jointly done by the KSPFI and the External Office of Public Relations of Central Philippine University, on December 22, at 3:00 in the afternoon, CPU Educational Media Center, Jaro, Iloilo City.
Salas, whose studies and efforts at the Maasin Watershed spanned more than two decades, calls the launching an afternoon of rondalla music, poem reading, and short story telling, before an audience of watershed advocates.
"The book contains also personal essays and documents which I have culled through my experiences in working with the people at the Maasin watershed and the Tigum-Aganan," Salas said.
The book was edited by Dr. Elma Herradura and given inspiration for the launching by Dr. Leoncio Deriada.
Salas said she has invited the local officials of the Tigum-Aganan Watershed areas, and other stakeholders for the launching.
"I hope many will be interested to read this book, for this presents valuable insights into how we address the current situation of our environment and the critical water situation in Iloilo. (PIA 6/ESS).
