Probe on dumping of waste on creek sought
BACOLOD CITY -- Sangguniang Panglungsod Member Greg Gasataya, chairman of the Committee on Environment, vowed yesterday to sponsor a resolution requesting the City Legal Office and the Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO) to investigate the clamor and complaints hurled by the residents beside Goldenfield Commercial Complex that the creek is being used as a dumping site of chicken wastes like feathers by some chicken inasal vendors.
Gasataya said the dumping of waste on the creek, if proven to be true, is in violation of Republic Act 9003 otherwise known as Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.
Gasataya appealed to those responsible for this illegal activity to follow the law and comply with the solid waste management program on "segregation" policy like the dumping of compostable, bio-degradable and also the residual wastes.
His office likewise received that some establishments want to know the schedule of regular dumping of waste at Brgy. Felisa.
On the other hand, Acting City Legal Officer Atty. Vicente Petierre Jr. also pledged yesterday to inspect the dumping activity at the creek beside Goldenfield Commercial Complex. Petierre challenged every barangay to be responsible because not all areas in the city of Bacolod will be fully saturated by his enforcement team.
"It is really a No-No policy that a creek will be utilized as dumping area," Petierre said. He said that if it is proven to be true, he will make some legal recommendation that the culprits will be penalized under R.A 9003.
Petierre said that he will schedule all Chicken inasal vendors for a meeting to address this problem.
