Salcedo hears plea for DepEd teachers, workers’ GSIS benefits
Nationwide call for the immediate release of government benefits for the Department of Education (DepEd) family found an ally in the Iloilo Provincial Government.
With the plea reaching the Committee on Education and Information, Fifth District Board Member Jesus Salcedo took the lead as requested by counterparts in the Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP) of Davao Oriental.
Contained in Resolution No, 11-2009, the Davao Oriental SP body sought for Iloilo SP’s support following request made to Winston Garcia, Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) president and general manager.
The DepEd has since rallied for inter-government support in the release of GSIS benefits for its public school officials, teachers and employees. This, as longtime delays hit GSIS disbursement of dividends, pensions and other mandatory benefits due to the DepEd family.
The request included national and local government unit officials and employees throughout the country enrolled in the old checking-system.
Contained in Committee Report 01 Series of 2009, the Committee on Education and Information reported back its recommendation during the out of town session in Sara, Iloilo.
Meantime, a similar request for support likewise reached the Capitol this time coming from the SP body of Basilan.
Counterparts here of the Iloilo SP called for the passage of Resolution of Support addressed to the Commission on Elections. Same call for the House of Representatives, House of Senate and the President relative to the conduct of a one time general registration.
Further still, the request called for the adoption of a national identification system.
