CTO seen to exceed collection target
The City Treasurer's Office is expected to exceed from their estimated collection target for 2009 as they posted 51 percent of their target from January to April. In the first four months of the year, they have already collected P488,533,717.
The collected taxes is more than half of the P958,505,957 of the city’s estimate budget for 2009. The business and other taxes topped the collections reaching P180,505,957. It is 67 percent of the target for the entire year which is P269,360,000.
Mayor Jerry Treñas has credited the good performance of treasurers’ office headed by Mrs. Katherine Tingson on their tax collection effort. The taxes and the Internal Revenue Allotment is the lifeline of the local government unit.
The tax mapping implemented by the treasurer's office and City Assessors Office resulted in the increase in the city’s tax collection effort. The media advocacy on the proper processing of business permits was also a big help.
The collections on Real Property Taxes (RPT) amounted to P77,367,499. It is 47 percent of the target for 2009 which is P163,499,717. Collected non-tax revenue reached to P51,148,206 or 65 percent of the target which is P78,458,000.
Collections on public markets and slaughterhouse from January to April amounted to P16,171,291. The target for revenues on public markets and slaughterhouse for 2009 is P34,671,000. The collected tax is 47 percent of the target.
Iloilo City also received P163,340,762 as its initial Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) share. The city has an IRA share of P412,506,278. The release is only 40 percent of its total IRA share from the national taxes.
